My husband and I picked up our new Pixie-bob kitten at the end of January. We had selected our Pixie-bob kitten from photos, conversations, and emails with the breeder. When we arrived home, I took our new kitten out of the carrier. I was surprised at how solid she was. Her gorgeous coat had a wild feel to it, she really looked like a bobcat, and her face and tufted ears were just precious. She "Mu", walked over to me, crawled into my lap, and started purring and cuddling. And that is when Pixie-bob Training by Miss Kermit started.
Miss Kermit's "Mu" in the morning and her rubbing against my legs is such a wonderful way to start my day. She also makes it clear when she thinks I am a bit late with her breakfast of raw meat. Her "Mu" definitely changes into "MU!!" I think Miss Kermit is telling me I need more training in this area.
After breakfast, Miss Kermit goes into Play mode. And her playing has definite take-no-prisoners, "devilish" quality. Miss Kermit pounces, jumps, chases, bats, leaps, swats, and pounces. Her little tail vibrates just before she pounces. And the sounds she makes "Mu","chirp", and "toodle-do!" Miss Kermit's eyes get huge and her ears go slightly to the side when she wants me to play with her. Her toys include Dog (a soft catnip-filled toy), FeatherBalls, FuzzyBalls, TazmanianDevil (teaser with a fuzzy catnip-filled creature), Snake (fuzzy teaser with feathers), and 2 cat trees. Miss Kermit also races at top speed around the house and up/down the stairs. Thundering paws can be heard throughout our home. She looks so cute when she races around with a toy in her mouth. Dog was Miss Kermit's favorite toy (she used to sleep with him)but they must have had a falling-out. Dog was last seen in her mouth as she raced around the house. Dog has disappeared and may be in Miss Kermit's secret stash. Dog's days may be numbered.
At about 11:00 it is Nap & Cuddle mode. Miss Kermit prefers a sunny site. So she heads for her cat tree (which is in front of a big sunny window) or the kitchen nook where she spreads herself across 2 chairs. If I am available, Miss Kermit turns me into her bed. She pushes and pulls my arms into exactly the position she wants, goes into purr mode, then goes to sleep. Miss Kermit gets into the oddest positions! She occasionally wakes up from her nap to give me a pat on my cheek with her paw. Nap & Cuddle time lasts until dinner. However, sometimes when I am working she will drop a toy on my foot, so we just have to play for a little while. Miss Kermit likes to help me with my indexing business; she follows me to my office and chases the cursor on the monitor.
Miss Kermit's dinner is much the same as breakfast. After dinner, Miss Kermit goes into Combo mode, which includes Play & Nap & Cuddle. She likes watching TV; sports and action movies are preferred. Miss Kermit's head moves back and forth as she watches TV and occasionally she needs to attack the screen. Every once in a while she races around the house at full speed. Combo mode lasts until about 2:00 AM. I'm glad my husband is a night person. Miss Kermit follows him around and helps him with whatever he is doing.
Miss Kermit has conquered our entire home, from the basement, to the main floor, to the second floor. She is initially leery of new sounds, but after a few seconds she is investigating. However, Miss Kermit and I are still having a bit of a discussion regarding the vacuum cleaner. She is growing and changing every day. Miss Kermit is truly a unique little soul. My husband and I haven't stopped smiling.
Pixie-bob Lessons Learned:
1. Pixie-bobs choose to be with (or on) their humans.
2. Pixie-bobs are interested in EVERYTHING about their humans; what they are doing, where they have been.
3. Food should be served on time, no exceptions.
4. Play, Nap & Cuddle, and Combo modes are all very serious business.
5. Play, Nap & Cuddle, and Combo modes require an audience and participation is expected.
6. Pixie-bobs are bold and active; they will investigate every nook, cranny, and sound.
Why is behind this success story? The short answer is Pat Knippelmeyer of PK Pixies. The long answer is Pat breeds a true Pixie-bob; a cat that resembles a bobcat and has a dog-like "catonality." Pat gave us our Basic Pixie-bob Training before we picked up Miss Kermit. Pat made sure we knew how to take care of our new kitten; from transitioning to her new environment, to basic health care, to detailed feeding instructions, to toy suggestions, to cat trees, to discipline. Pat socialized and trained Miss Kermit in basic manners; Miss Kermit has meticulous litter habits, she scratches her cat tree instead of furniture, she stays off counter tops, and she understands "NO". Our new kitten was spayed; shots complete, and were tested for FELV and FIV; all prior to delivery. So all my husband and I had to do was enjoy our new kitten. I believe that Pat will help us with whatever may come up and I think of Pat as a friend.
