When I began breeding, I never really thought about how important nutrition would be in a
Breeding Program. After I had my first litters I realized I needed to do something different. I
began reading and searching the internet for all the information I could find on nutrition and
felines; what they needed, what they didn't need, how nutrition could tie in to diabetes, fatty liver
disease, behavior problems, litter box problems, etc.

What I discovered was that you need to feed your cats a very high protein diet. carbohydrates
should be limited; corn, wheat and soy should be eliminated from their diets. I have found more
temperament issues with cats or kittens that are fed food especially with corn. Kittens that I have
placed that the owners changed their diets to a food that had corn in it have been dramatic. The
cats became destructive and aggressive. With in weeks of changing them back to a diet without
corn, the aggressive/destructive behavior diminished. The best way I can explain this is that
Cats
are Obligate Carnivores
, if they eat food with corn in it, they become like two year olds on
sugar, bursts of high energy then very lethargic. So, please check the ingredients on your foods
and make sure you are feeding the best you can.

In closing, I hope this information helps when deciding what to feed your cats. Good nutrition is
important!!

Next time, I will talk about Raw Meat as a supplement to their diets.
