              Grooming and Prepairing for Shows
                                     By Gail Anderson

I bathe my cats the day before the show. I like to use Dawn dish soap. I will mix it in
a cup of warm water to dilute. This makes it much easier to wash from the coat
rather than putting it on directly. Before going to the rings in the morning I will
brush the coat out and fluff up the hair around the face by hand. I sometimes like to
use a natural moose on the brow and cheeks to help hair have more loft. You want to
check the eyes, nose and fanny area to make sure they are clean. Sometimes litter is
hanging in small bits here and there. I only use pellet (newspaper) litter I find it the
least dusty to the coat also does not cling much. Also take care that all nails are
trimmed, last thing you want is for a judge to accidentally get scratched.

The following is a list of items I have with me for the show. They are all packed in
one of those big plastic boxes with the folding tops. A small cart with sturdy wheels is
a great item, for those long walks needed to move all your show items for set up. I
pack:

Food, bowls, toys, drapes/flooring for cages, pictures, cleaner, Q-tips, towel, plastic
liner for stud cage, business cards, deodorizer, nail clippers, brush, paper towels,
decorations, table drape, metal clips, pens, scissors, pad locks for cages, kitty treats,
pan, scoop, litter, natural calming agents, eye meds and wash, some times all the
handling and travel will irritate an eye.

Last thing you always want to pack to take to a cat show is a smile and a sense of
humor. You will always need these 2 items. If things go wrong; there will always be
another cat show down the road. Try to remember it is just a cat show, not the
Olymppics.
